I can’t remember the last time I was lonely. I spend a lot of time alone and even went on vacation for five days alone in March. I love many people deeply but I seek solitude. The main reason I don’t get lonely is because I know I am never alone and my knowing guides my feelings. I can’t count the number of times I have heard someone say “yes, I know God is with me but……”. It always grieves my heart to hear those words because God is dismissed with the word “but”. There seems to be a pervasive idea among believers that God pops in and out of our lives when we summon Him in prayer and dismiss Him with an Amen! How small and inconsequential we make the King of Glory. This wrong idea couldn’t be further from the truth.
Perhaps it is because we are so uncomfortable with the third member of the Trinity: the Holy Spirit. At the very moment a person accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior, God sends the Holy Spirit to reside within us. We are sealed at that moment. What does that mean? It means two things. First it means that the Holy Spirit of God is literally inside of us and will not leave us while we are here on earth. Ever. He doesn’t come and go based on our sinfulness or goodness. That is religion. The Holy Spirit is truth. We are sealed like a Ziploc bag. Secondly we have a seal put upon us on our foreheads. It can only be seen in the spiritual realm but all in the spiritual realm see the mark of God upon our lives. Does that seem spooky or weird? It isn’t. And this isn’t some bizarre theology I’m making up.
2 Corinthians 1: 21-22, “Now he who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.”
Revelation 9:4, “They were told not to hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.”
Stay with me here. Your reality and my realitiy is that there is not one moment as a believer that you have ever or will ever spend alone. All the comfort, all the courage, all the wisdom, all the love and attention you will ever need is with you at every moment. He will not invade space in your life though. It is our work to yield to the grace offering of the Holy Spirit. We don’t work to get the Spirit but yield to the Spirit who is already present to us in His fullness. The more I yield (an every day process by the way), the more I am complete and never ever alone. Plug in/yield to that Power that is within you and you will be transformed into who you were always meant to be.
As if the Holy Spirit wasn’t enough, (which He is), God in His unending love for us sent two more companions that will never get tired of us, will never leave us, will never get mad at us, and will never betray us. Psalm 23: 6 (NKJV), “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life;”. Hear it now from The Message, “Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life.”
Can you see the picture of your life? No matter what you are facing or who walks in or out of your present moment, God’s own Spirit is sealed inside of you and goodness and mercy march tirelessly on either side of you. God has sent each believer the perfect traveling companions. He knew what we would face in this world and He thought of everything. You may feel alone dear ones but that is not the truth. Take heart, stand up, and let the truth set you free.
Amen…Kris!!!
He never leaves or forsakes us.
I knew he lived inside of me during my son’s illness and going home.
Thank you Lord for Jesus and the Holy Spirit…
Love this Kris, thanks for sharing your gifts.
But… NOTHIN’!!! So grateful for the truth of your words!
