Purpose. Not Position.

The world, and Satan through it, tells us that we find our value through the position(s) we hold in it. If we follow that path we will inevitably find ourselves in the land of comparisons. If we look to the left on the measuring stick of value we find those who are not as good at ____________________ as we are, and when we look to the right we see those who are better. There is no peace or satisfaction in this land.

God our Father calls us to peace and satisfaction through embracing our purpose that was designed and planned for before we were knitted together in our mother’s womb. I see so many people wandering aimlessly through their lives because they believe the lie that their life is random and has no divine purpose. Life is reduced to survival and fighting for a place of value through the position(s) we hold. What a tragic and unfulfilling existence.

Once I discovered I had an assignment, a God-given purpose in this world, I was set free to take my eyes off of myself and turn them toward God. It’s amazing what you can see when you aren’t spending all of your energy trying to belong or fit in. My Father led me to my purpose many years ago through a passage of Scripture that burns brightly in my heart. All my experiences in life and all of my spiritual gifts found alignment through that Scripture and it has been confirmed in me countless times. God will always confirm that which He calls us to.

Isaiah 61: 1-4 “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion – to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.”

Typing that passage makes my spirit leap inside of me. If I had kept my eyes focused on earthly things (and therefore on myself) I never would have heard my purpose in the words of Isaiah. I would have swallowed the lie hook, line, and sinker that I wasn’t good enough to have such a purpose from the Lord. Here’s the good news though – God sees my heart and He is the only one who truly can. Once I took my eyes off of myself and started to see myself the way He saw me, I started to hear, see, feel, and live my purpose.

Friend, God sees your heart. He knows you. He wants you. He will never leave you or forsake you. He created you with a singular purpose for this world and if you can reject the path of comparison and position, He will set your feet and heart on fire. Ask Him who you are, whose you are, and what He wants you to do. He will answer, He will confirm, He will heal.
